That'll Do Pig
episode #3.10 | written by Elise

WB Summary: Lorelai has to miss Stars Hollow's Winter Carnival when Great Grandmother Gilmore pays a surprise visit and insists on having dinner with Richard and Emily at Lorelai's inn, where she makes a surprise announcement. Meanwhile, Rory's plans to enjoy the carnival with Jess are complicated when they run into Dean and his little sister Carla.

Elise's Comment:

I had been anticipating this brand new episode, the first since the thanksgiving one. First of all, the return of Lorelai the first: Grandma Gilmore. It's so funny to see Emily in a such a state of panic when she hears her mother-in-law's voice. Used to order others around, she can not stand being ordered by this woman who seems to detest her with a passion. However, I will admit, Grandma Gilmore has her share of weirdness. What's this hunt around Lorelai's house?

Yet another reason to celebrate in Stars Hollow: the Winter Carnival! (Don't you just love this town?) I do not know if it's due to my strong dosage of first season episodes, but I saw Dean in a new light during this episode. After all that lingering about a possible relationship between Rory and Jess, my (and many other's) wish was realised. So why, can you explain, I suddenly see Jess as rude and too-intense-for-Rory, while Dean seems to be the guy for her?

Dean and Rory's conversation over pie -- served by Kirk (how many jobs can someone have?) -- reassured me that Jared's face will remain a regular one on the show. Their friendship will be a strong one, I'm sure. But for all of you still fans of Jess (as I was before this episode), I am reassuring you that I still find Jess very fascinating, I do not want him to leave any time soon. Let me finish this comment on a funny note with my favourite scenes.

  • Sookie's little dance while she explains how she ripped her shirt
  • Clara annoying Jess (comment on his hair)
  • Emily taking more than 12 minutes to eat her course
  • Michel's difficulty to address his welcome to a group at the Inn
