I Get A Sidekick Out Of You episode #6.19 | written by Elise |
Elise's Comment:
I really enjoyed last night's episode. We had been waiting a long time for an eventful episode... and this one delivered. I didn't expect the whole wedding to be this week; I thought we would only see the bachelorette party. This was better.
I found it very cute, but annoying that the people of Stars Hollow have nowhere to go to celebrate or "get wild", as Lane said (or did she say that?). The fact that they all ended up in Brian's aunt's basement was pretty funny.
The wedding was very well done. The writers did a good job with that. I just checked, and I am not at all surprised that Amy Sherman-Palladino is the one who wrote AND directed the episode. I enjoyed learning more about Mrs. Kim and her crazy mother. Funny how Mrs. Kim is hiding things from her mother (even suggested the floor boards) just as Lane was doing. I like the parallel you drew between the mother-daughter relationships on the show, coffee*3. I think Rory is about the only daughter who doesn't hide things from her mother.
I am very happy for Lane. For a long time, I felt she needed to find something other than the band. Something better. I thought she should have gone to college; rebelled against her mother and go to the one she wanted. However, I'm glad of the way things turned out for her. For the first time yesterday, I was actually happy to see Hep Alien.
I loved seeing Stars Hollow at night... the second wedding celebration. The magical transformation of Lane's dress, from huge and ugly, to "elegant" (as Sookie said) to funky (at the end with the pink collar and shorter veil). Kirk has started another business? Wow, he must be busy lately, with the real estate too. I was laughing so hard when I saw Brian "check out" Lane's cousin... but I didn't expect them to dance and make out! His speech was good. I also adored Rory's speech. The letter was a very good idea. Very original. Very Stars Hollow-ish.
Michel has to be one of the most fascinating people in Stars Hollow. Does he actually live in Stars Hollow? I don’t think we ever find out. His obsession with Celine continues. I really enjoyed watching him dance his butt off at the Inn.
I liked seeing Chris again. A lot of you know he holds a very special spot in my Gilmore heart. lol. I also like Luke, which makes it difficult. But the way he's been behaving lately, it was refreshing to see a man who actually listened to and cared for Lorelai.
The Sidekick annoyed me. This was product placement at its best... being an advertising student, I realized it automatically and hated it.
I wasn't surprised to see Rory run off to New York to see Logan. When she told Jess that she loved Logan a couple of episodes ago, she did it in a very believable way. She just seemed to be dealing with all that emotion badly, especially since she had learned that Logan had slept with other girls. So I wasn't surprised to see her go. I think things will be fine between the two of them. Christopher saying he approved of him, to Rory, seemed like foreshadowing to me.
Finally, let’s end with Lorelai's speech. I felt very bad for her. She doesn't deserve this. For once, she's fully involved in a relationship, and not backing out (like she did with Max). She loves Luke, but he's pulling away. I think that she's not speaking up and asking to be included in Luke's life with April for exactly that reason: she loves him very much and doesn't want to lose him. So she's giving him space and time. But Luke is blind; he doesn't realize that this space and time is hurting them. He needs a wake-up call.
