We've Got Magic To Do
episode #6.05 | written by Elise

WB summary: Rory (Alexis Bledel) does a fabulous job organizing a big DAR bash for Emily (Kelly Bishop). However, at the party, Richard (Edward Herrmann) confronts Logan's (Matt Czuchry) father, Mitchum Huntzberger (guest star Gregg Henry), about his opinion of Rory's journalistic talents, while Emily has an even uglier confrontation with Logan's mother, Shria (guest star Leann Hunley), over the romance between Rory and Logan. Meanwhile, after a small kitchen fire at the Dragonfly Inn, Lorelai (Lauren Graham) needs Richard's help settling the insurance claim and uses the time spent with her father to needle him about the fact that he has been unable to get Rory to return to Yale. Though he's annoyed with Lorelai, Richard has to admit that Rory is not where she should be. Michael Zinberg directed the episode written by Daniel Palladino.

Elise's comment:

I'll start with the ending: I'm not sure what the last scene meant. Why was Richard looking at Rory like that? Did he feel bad for her? Was he proud of her? Did he agree with Huntzberger's opinion? I really don't know what to make of it.

The whole event was really cool. I love themed parties. The music was very retro. To see Paris working was hilarious. She got small talk ideas from Just Shoot Me? The minute she mentioned that she didn't have any more money, I immediately thought that she would move in with Rory (because she can't afford an apartment). Would Doyle be joining them?

I do not like the Huntzbergers and am glad that Emily and Richard realized how horrible they are. I hope this will help the whole Lorelai/Rory/Richard&Emily triangle. At one point during the party, Rory refers to the Huntzbergers (and/or to the entire "rich" population) as "these people". It seemed negative. She's realizing that her mother was right to raise her away from this kind of social circle. Did you see the look on her face when Emily was talking about the "looser" table (or something like that)?

Kirk's performance was disturbing. Lorelai and Sookie’s reaction to the children throwing sparkles in the opening and closing numbers was so funny. I especially liked it at the end when Sookie says "This is so stressful".

I was a little confused when Lorelai and Luke ate at Sookie and Jackson's house. S&J kept screaming at poor little Davie to turn down the volume. He was really young, I don't think he understood what they meant, or how to turn it down. I wasn't sure what they wanted to prove with that whole scene... I thought that maybe they would realize that Davie was deaf. I was thinking more on the dramatic side.

Camping doesn't seem as much fun for Luke anymore. He has Lorelai. It was something he enjoyed when he was alone, when he wasn't seeing anyone. He is changing friends.

Talk about this episode...
