Just Like Gwen And Gavin
episode #6.12 | written by Elise

WB Summary: Knowing he has let too much time go by, Luke (Scott Patterson) is still unable to tell Lorelai (Lauren Graham) about the existence of his 12-year-old daughter, April (Vanessa Marano), and he is thrown into a panic when April wants to hang out with him at the diner. When April and Lorelai both show up at the diner and begin chatting, April innocently explains that Luke is her father. Lorelai tries to be supportive, even offering to postpone the wedding date, but Luke's reaction to this idea leaves her confused and hurt. Back at Yale, Logan (Matt Czuchry) takes unusual steps to win Rory (Alexis Bledel) back, and the newspaper staff rebels against Paris' (Liza Weil) reign of terror at the Yale Daily News. Meanwhile, Stars Hollow holds its annual Winter Carnival, and Lorelai and Rory run a booth featuring their dog, Paul Anka, as a fortune teller. The episode was written by Daniel Palladino and directed by Stephen Clancy.

Elise's Comment:

We got it, our Stars Hollow Event! We had all been saying that the show needed one, and soon. The bells that woke everyone up for the town meeting were very Stars Hollow-ish. The Winter Carnival wasn't new; I guess everyone figured that out. Back in season 3, Rory attended it with Jess, and met Dean and Clara there. I remember not liking Jess's attitude in that episode. Anyways, moving on...

I'm not sure (I'll have to rewatch) about the last scene between Lorelai and Luke. Was it Lorelai that suggested to post-pone the wedding? If so, it's one of those questions that you ask just so the other person can reassure you. Luke didn't get that. He also didn't get the sad look of disappointment on Lorelai's face. My dad was watching with me last night (and he loved the episode), and was angry at Luke for postponing the whole thing.

I think Logan knows he can't bribe Rory. I also think that it's the only thing he knows how to do. I felt kind of sad for him. Although I think that the actor who plays him doesn't show enough emotion (he seems fake... or is Logan supposed to be fake), the fact that Logan went to Lorelai for help shows a level of maturity I didn't knew he had. Now I want to know what was in that letter. I wasn't even sure if it had been written before he had talked to Lorelai or after. Again, I will have to rewatch. I wonder if Rory will call Logan back. She did invite him in... I think they will get back together. I think the writers will make this work.

Zach's reaction to Lane's uncle was classic. I also enjoyed Mrs. Kim in this episode. I had totally overlooked that reference to The O.C. when Zach said “Welcome to The SH...” Someone mentioned it on the Forum. I was wondering why he added the "The" before "SH". That's so funny. Another reference they made last night was to the movie "My Fair Lady"... Lorelai made a reference to "The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain."

Paris is annoying. How can the officials at Yale allow her to treat her staff this way? Those caps with the numbers were way too much. As someone mentioned on the Forum, I also got the feeling that she might be forced to leave and that Rory will get her job as editor. But she works at the Stanford Gazette now... will she have time?

I like the character of April. That scene in the diner was funny. I liked it when Luke told her not to talk to strangers (or stranglers!). But then when he told her she didn't need to lock her bike... classic! I find it very realistic that she wanted to refill the salt and pepper shakers. I would have liked to do that too at 12 years old... I liked helping out.

I'm glad that it was April who finally told Lorelai the news about... well, her.
