Pulp Friction episode #5.17| written by Elise |
Elise's Comment: Some Lorelai/Luke fans will be happy to learn that I am almost converted. I just love seeing them together like this. However, I haven't forgotten about Christopher (before he went all weird at the wedding) and there are still four episodes left, so who knows what could happen. Still, I am glad that Lorelai and Luke are back together. We'll finally see an end to all this bow wearing in town. I really liked the scene where Lorelai put her cellphone number on speed dial on Luke's phone (... because I'm number 1!). It sure came in handy at the end... that Emily could be a character in a Quentin Tarantino movie, Bill has nothing compared to her. I am so glad that Lorelai stood up to her and told her to simply "shut up". Those two words seemed so powerful coming out of Lorelai's mouth and being directed at a classy woman like Emily. But you know what, she deserved it fair and square.
For some time now I felt as if our Rory was becoming someone else. A friend of mine tried to explain to me how people change, especially in college. After all I should know, I am in college. Although some people can have drastic personality changes, Rory's "new" life seemed a little too distant from her previous one. I was glad to see that I wasn't the only one noticing it, Lorelai did too. Just hearing Rory mentionning the casual dating situation, and comments like "it's college"... it didn't feel like her. I think we'll see a change though, I feel it. As for Logan, I still haven't made up my mind on him yet. Sometimes I like him, sometimes I don't. I didn't really like him during the first half of the episode. He just doesn't seem genuine enough sometimes. However, and I've mentionned it before, I have a feeling that if a heart gets broken in this relationship, it won't be Rory's.
This week's hilarious moments belong to Sookie. Isn't she glowing lately? Her baby must be due any week now. It was so adorable to see her put all that work into the Inn's photo shoot. And those cakes on every dining room table looked heavenly (you know, like that Philadelphia cream cheese). The episode's funniest scene has to be when she takes out that roasted chicken on the Inn's porch. It just looked so out of place there amongst the flowers and pretty fences. And it completely clashed with Michel's motor home. Oh, what a treat he is that Michel. What I liked about him in this episode is how real he seemed when he was hurt by Lorelai's comment. For the first time, we got to see a real man underneath that pricey suit. It was about time. Finally, this review wouldn't be complete without mentionning Kirk. It's not the first time I notice this, but he seems to consider Luke as some sort of mentor. I am glad that he is finally considering moving out of his mother's house... but maybe he should have found another place first. I was scared for a moment there, I actually thought Lulu had broken up with him. Now that would have been too sad for television. Let poor Kirk have his share of love, please. Oh, and would it be such a crazy idea if he bought Michel's motor home?
The fifth season got off to a good start. However, I thought that the storyline was getting a little too dramatic, and less Stars Hollow-ish. I know I'm picky, but there's just this feeling I got watching episodes of Gilmore Girls during the first seasons. I associated it with the show, so whenever I don't seem to feel it in an episode, I'm a little disapointed. That being said, I felt it in this episode.
